Perplexed feminist in insurance agency

We all think, "It'll never happen to me," but yesterday it did. I figured I lived in a conservative enough area that I wouldn't have to face this, but I guess I was wrong.

I was sitting in the insurance agency getting my homeowners and when asked what I do, I said, "I'm a housewife." She avoided looking at me, but almost seemed sick. I guess it's hard to believe that a strong, active 24 year old isn't "working." So, then she asked, "You mean, you don't work at all?" Ok, she got me. I told her I had a job cleaning the church I attend. She seemed relieved until I told her that it only takes me 2 1/2 hours a week. (It's a small church.) Then, she seemed almost desperate. "Are you going to be having children soon?"

There it is! It was her last grasp at "reason." I told her I was hoping to have children soon, and she seemed settled. I guess it's ok to be a stay-at-home mom, but not a stay-at-home wife.

Boy do I run into this too.
My husband and I haven't been able to have children in the 5 years we've been married.
I'm desperate to be a housewife. People around me just can't understand it since I don't have children.
"If you don't have children, you should be working."

Sigh...
So I work and I come home stressed and EVERYONE suffers (even my home suffers).

I work, and I pray (for a change in heart from my hubby!)

Don't get discouraged! Work in your home and serve your husband with gladness and don't let others make you doubt your calling to be a helpmeet for your husband!

Our daughter was born at 7:17 pm, May 27th after only 2 1/2 hours of labor and 10 minutes of pushing! She weighed in at 6lbs 5 ounces and measured at 19 inches long....another little peanut! It was all-natural, baby! No induction, no pitocin, no pain relievers, no episiotomy! All prayers have been answered by the Lord except for her nursing ability. I'm sorry, but I just have to gripe...

What is it with this trend of calling women "Miss" and their first name? I really dislike being called "Miss Kate." First of all, I am NOT a "Miss" and secondly, Kate is my familiar nickname. I am very proudly Mrs. Scott. Calling me Mrs. Scott does not make me feel old or detached. On the other hand, "Miss Kate" makes me sound like a child and lowered in societal and respectable standards rather than the married mother that I am. I don't want to be called Miss Kate, nor do I want my children to address adult women in that manner. Which brings up another point; men don't receive that kind of watered down respect. They get addressed properly as Mr. Smith, not Mr. John. Unfortunately, the three greatest offenders are a close friend, my sister-in-law, and my church.
