Elimination Communication

Saved Sinner asked if I've considered Elimination Communication and as a matter of fact I have. For those who don't know what that is, it is reading your infant's signals and having them use the toilet rather than wearing diapers.

I've read a few articles and visited a few websites, but it is something I don't personally feel is workable for me, nor is it supported by hubby. No Greater Joy is supposed to have an article on it in their next issue. I'll see after I read it, but I honestly don't feel comfortable with the whole thing.

Interestingly enough, in the 1940's baby book I have, they do have a section on "bowel training" for infants...where an infant uses a chamber pot. I find the whole concept of EC interesting, but not for my family....at least not at this time.

Perhaps if I had an EC mentor to come over and show me how it is done, I could work on it.

EC is an absolutely wonderful way to bond and communicate with your baby, plus you are treating them with the most dignity and respect possible.

I HIGHLY recommend at least trying it part time. There are yahoo groups and mentors at elimination communication websites, in addition to books and videos available on the web.

I always say that nobody ever regrets trying EC, but plenty of parents regret finding out about it too late. :)

I would offer to help but being on a different continent makes it a bit difficult. I'm glad that you've at least heard of it and considered it (even if you have rejected it as unworkable for you) as I know a lot of people who wish they had known about it. I had the advantage of finding out before we were expecting our first child so had plenty of time for both myself and my husband to look into it and of course being my first, I didn't have to learn it while looking after another child too. I'm glad you've done a post about it even though you aren't doing it as it helps to spread awareness therefore giving more people the option of doing it.

My children are many years past this now, but I remember reading something about this years ago...I think it was written by the Pearls. I thought it was a fascinating concept...but like you, not workable for us.

However, if others choose to try it out and their husbands have no problem with it, it could be a good thing.

I wonder how prevalent it is now?

Our daughter was born at 7:17 pm, May 27th after only 2 1/2 hours of labor and 10 minutes of pushing! She weighed in at 6lbs 5 ounces and measured at 19 inches long....another little peanut! It was all-natural, baby! No induction, no pitocin, no pain relievers, no episiotomy! All prayers have been answered by the Lord except for her nursing ability. Blessing, Wisdom, Modesty, Feminine Influences

My wonderful husband bought me a new vacuum! My old one threw sparks out at me, so I refused to run it for fear of my life. So, hubby bought me a new vacuum and it's wonderful! It even has a self-cleaning duster attachment! Hubby appreciates the hepa filter. I enjoy having a vacuum that actually does it's job. Oh, and my other favorite attachment is the special adjustable upholstery and stairs doo-hickey with it's own rotating brush. It's great for dog hair. I recently had my 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed. Hubby teased me that I was going to lose my wisdom, but I actually gained some! While I was in dreadful pain and recovering, I had to eat VERY carefully. During this time I learned that: 1. I eat when I'm not hungry...not a good habit to get into. 2. I eat too fast and don't savor my food. Therefore, I tend to eat a bit more so as to enjoy the flavor. 3. I put food in my mouth when I'm still chewing the first portion I put in. Blech...what a...

Baby Boy is one week old today! He's doing so well and we are all smitten with him. I am amazed at his growth and progress in just 1 week! Baby Boy is a quiet lad who only cries when it is necessary (at least so far). During his wakeful times, he enjoys staring at patterns or his mommy. He's great at turning his head to look around and listens intently when I sing. He's not the strongest feeder, yet and prefers multiple quick snacks rather than spaced out dinners. His umbilical cord stump is almost ready to fall off. He likes to be swaddled and loves being held. So much so that when I do hold him, he falls asleep almost instantly, but if I put him down, he wakes up. Not all the time, though. :)
