Magazines for the Home
What happened to Better Homes and Gardens and Good Housekeeping. They really don't have much to do with their titles anymore, especially Good Housekeeping. Better Homes and Gardens caters to a more wealthy crowd and you need to live near several expensive specialty food stores in order to cook most of their recipes. Good Housekeeping is full of celebrity gossip and advice that seems to apply more to the modernist career woman rather than a woman who is a keeper of her home.
Where are the ironing tips? Where are the decorating on a real budget (not $25,000 for a kitchen)?
I don't get either of those magazines, though I sometimes receive previously read copies. I do get Cottage Living, which is quickly joining the ranks of other "home and garden" magazines where the average person can't afford to even think about such renovations and decorating. Besides, they're on this "subway tile" kick. To top it off, most of the time the "cottages" they feature have well over 2,000 square feet of living space! I thought cottages were cute and small and realistic, not 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms! I do like their gardening ideas, though.
Since we're obviously sorely lacking in realistic housekeeping magazines, I visit Christian housekeeping blogs. They offer great, real world advice. Do you have a housekeeping blog of your own or some you enjoy visiting? If so, please share them in the comments section.

Good Housekeeping...I'm not sure what audience they're catering to. But there is certainly nothing in it about housekeeping. I look at the old, circa 1950s housekeeping magazines and sigh longingly. How I would love something like that today!

Do you subscribe to the Keepers at Home magazine put out by the Old Order Amish in Ohio? Now that, is an awesome homemaking magazine!
The best way to find some good homemaking blogs is just to do a blog search on the words 'Christian homemaking' or 'Christian homemaker'. All kinds of great ones will pop up!
