Saturday Projects

In my vintage Betty Crocker Cookbook, I found a recipe for "Quick Buttermilk Bread." It only needs to rise once for about an hour. I used their variation and added sharp cheddar cheese to the batter. I can't wait to try it! Here it is risen and ready to pop in the oven.

30 minutes later, it's baked and looks scrumptious! I also baked oatmeal coconut raisin cookies.

Bubby helped me with the cookies and made his own pizza for dinner. Here he is enjoying the fruits of his labor. He's a very good helper and loves working in the kitchen beside me.


I finished the fabric doll house for my daughter's birthday. Here is the front.



Here is the back. It closes by looping the tag around a big button that says I love you. Now, all I have to do is make some furniture and a doll or two for it.

He was helping me make pizza once too...putting mushrooms on top...

I thought maybe for her birthday I could make her some things for the dollhouse too (if i have time)...like you know how dollhouses come with different "sets"? ie: bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, baby room, pets, maybe outdoor "patio" furniture...what do you think??

The last 3 months of our 2 year plan...

 Almost 2 years ago we started a plan to really focus on paying off/down our debts and building our business.  We've been pretty successful and are now in the home stretch.  One debt still haunts us, though, our last credit card.  When we started our journey, we had 4 credit cards and a personal loan.  We've paid all but that last, big, pesky credit card.  That's the one that we packed our medical-related debt onto nearly 10 years ago.  I was hoping to have it paid off by the end of this year, but the dog needed nearly $2000 in vet care, there were lots of vehicle repair bills, the washer and dryer both needed replacing...you know, the usual.  We've been hovering between the $10,000 and $11,000 mark.   As of the end of the year, with the scheduled payments I have set up, we should be around or just under $10,000.   My plan is to put everything I can into paying down that card by the end of March.  Here are my ideas: 1....

She's Here!

Our daughter was born at 7:17 pm, May 27th after only 2 1/2 hours of labor and 10 minutes of pushing! She weighed in at 6lbs 5 ounces and measured at 19 inches long....another little peanut! It was all-natural, baby! No induction, no pitocin, no pain relievers, no episiotomy! All prayers have been answered by the Lord except for her nursing ability. She's not a very good nurser, though she was a champ just after she was born. She's getting better, though and I continue in prayer that she improves. I pray that when my milk comes in, she'll be a great nurser. I'm also in prayer about her jaundice. Right now, it's not bad at all, but I learned with Bubby how quickly that can change, especially with her not being a good nurser. The picture above was taken yesterday. Hermit Christians

It upsets, and I dare say, angers me that Christians get into this Hermit-Habit. We go to our familiar church, sit in our familiar pews (and get a bent nose if some new face invades our church or worse, our pew), go home to our familiar houses and forget about everyone else around us. When my father was forced into retirement after an on-the-job injury that wasn't his fault (he was safely parked and someone hit him), raising a family of 7 was very difficult. When he ended up in the hospital, a call was put out to provide meals for our family since dad was in the hospital and mom was with him (my brothers were old enough to watch the littles.) A local restaurant owner provided us with pizza every Saturday night for free. Otherwise, the only other person to step foward sent us a dish of baked beans. That was it! The reasoning? "I have my own family to take care of." "We're worse off than they are!" "I can't be bothered, I'm too busy."...
