Children and Real Estate

First of all, thank you to those who responded to my last post. As a matter of fact, I do think several times a day about how much I'm going to miss this. I hold my 4 year old and try to remember him so tiny and new. I hold my 2 year old and think about us co-sleeping. I cradle my 2 month old and wonder at how big he's gotten already! Trace Adkin's song, "You're Gonna Miss This" runs through my head all the time.

Secondly, real estate is on my mind again. Old or New is my thought for the day. I love old houses. I love their character and history. I grew up in an old house. However, they are high-maintenance. On the other hand are new houses. There is a new house for sale not too far from were I live now, and for a good price. While it lacks the charm and character of an older home, it is cute. Plus, the idea of everything being untouched and unbroken is appealing.

Of course, these are all just thoughts right now. We can't budge from our little cottage just yet. But, as I've said before, I'm a real estate junkie.

Well, my husband and I were both in construction for many years, I got laid off two years ago and he almost three weeks ago - construction is just dead in our area.

I can honestly say old homes are the way to go - UNLESS you can afford to have one built that you oversee every detail. New homes :look: nice and and are touted as wonderfully energy efficient compared to their older counterparts however you, more often than not, purchase little more than a shanty shack in terms of the construction.

I would purchase a good well built modest older home even with some work needing to be done before I would purchase new construction. Just my two cents though :)

Our daughter was born at 7:17 pm, May 27th after only 2 1/2 hours of labor and 10 minutes of pushing! She weighed in at 6lbs 5 ounces and measured at 19 inches long....another little peanut! It was all-natural, baby! No induction, no pitocin, no pain relievers, no episiotomy! All prayers have been answered by the Lord except for her nursing ability. I'm sorry, but I just have to gripe...

What is it with this trend of calling women "Miss" and their first name? I really dislike being called "Miss Kate." First of all, I am NOT a "Miss" and secondly, Kate is my familiar nickname. I am very proudly Mrs. Scott. Calling me Mrs. Scott does not make me feel old or detached. On the other hand, "Miss Kate" makes me sound like a child and lowered in societal and respectable standards rather than the married mother that I am. I don't want to be called Miss Kate, nor do I want my children to address adult women in that manner. Which brings up another point; men don't receive that kind of watered down respect. They get addressed properly as Mr. Smith, not Mr. John. Unfortunately, the three greatest offenders are a close friend, my sister-in-law, and my church.
