Not Preterm Labor, But....

Thankfully, the exit is still secured for my unborn baby! Preterm labor is not happening, but the contractions are. Therefore, the doctor has put me on limited mobility. I am not on bedrest, per se, but I cannot lift anything, including children. That includes them into their carseats, or into the tub, or into a crib..... No lugging groceries. No pushing my big ol' vacuum cleaner. I can do light housework. I can cook. I can wash dishes. I cannot load my outdoor furnace. I cannot carry laundry up and down the basement stairs.

This is going to be quite an adjustment for the next 9 to 12 weeks. Already my children are understandably NOT happy with the changes, especially my youngest.

Well, I have to go diffuse a fight between the kiddos.

hey! I had this (from what you described in your last post) with my last child. It sounds like prodromal labor, and is very common with 3rd, 4th and beyond babies. Sometimes you have to stop and breathe thru the contractions they are so bad. I can't tell you how many times I thought I was in labor last time! It lasted for many many many weeks. There was no need to limit any activity though, since it was perfectly normal. Did your doctor give you a name for what you are experiencing?

No. He did not name it, but he is asking me to take it easy as prescribed in my post because I have a low-lying placenta AND all 3 of my babies were pre-term AND I had 3 miscarriages, 2 of which needed D&C's. With that sort of history, and a history of preterm labor in my 3rd trimester, he doesn't want me taking any chances. Especially when the contractions are coupled with the urge to push.
totally understand that! but hopefully it is just the prodromal labor (sounds just like what i had-even the urge to push). extra precaution in your case sounds like a good idea :) Is the low-lying placenta going to cause any problems do they think? I'll be praying for you a safe term delivery :)

They are unsure about my placenta causing problems in the future, so i will receive an ultrasound in the near future to see if it moved upward at all.
i'll pray for you that it doesn't cause complications. I always worry that the placenta will form over my c-section scar..thankfully it hasn't the last 2 times!
