Taking the plunge

Yesterday, I tried cloth diapering my son with the simple rectangle cloth diapers you have to pin. You know, the ones that most people buy at Walmart to use for burp cloths. My son soaked the whole thing in an hour. It ruined his nap.

Pride goeth before a fall.

I proudly touted that I was going to use cloth diapers for my son. Mothers smuggly smiled and said, "no you're not." Even my own mother said so. Well, my pride took a fall yesterday.

But I haven't given up hope. I'm going to make or buy an all-in-one cloth diaper to try first. If that works, then I'm hooked! If not, well, I went out with a fight and I'll have to suck it up and admit that I was wrong.

Funny thing about cloth diapers....I really didn't care one way or another. But my husband decided one day that "cloth diapers will save money," so we purchased about 4 dozen along with 1 dozen pair of plastic pants. The first time my husband had to swirl a poopy diaper around in the toilet (like, the first afternoon) guess what?!!? We went back to disposables!!!

Since the Bible is silent on the issue of diapers, I guess you can do whatever is good for you!!!

First mistake is using those diapers from Walmart. They will not hold much of anything. A friend tried them for a few days and then gave me all her diapering things. I used cloth diapers from Homelife ( I think that is the company, it is Mary Pride's business- she does the Practical Homeschooling mag). They are diaper service quality- far better than what you get in the store. If you are in a health food store , look in the back of an issue of "Mothering" mag, lots of sources there. I liked the health info in "Mothering" but not the parenting advice.

There is a wonderful website - www.cottonbabies.com and they have a forum where people discuss cloth diapering issues, products, etc. I have loved it and have learned soooo much! They have wonderful customer service as well. Hope this helps!
